tânisi niwâhkômâkanak êkwa nitôtêmtik,

Hello my friends and relatives,

We are thrilled to welcome Crystal Greene to IndigiNews for a three-month investigative journalism fellowship. You may remember from a previous newsletter that Crystal was chosen as the inaugural fellow for this shared endeavour with Ricochet Media and Pivot.

Crystal, an Anishinaabe and Swampy Cree journalist hailing from Winnipeg, has completed three months with Ricochet, where she reported on an Anishinaabe community in northwestern Ontario that's fighting to keep nuclear waste out of their sacred waters and Morgan's Warriors, a street patrol group in Winnipeg who have banded together in the wake of loss to make the city a more compassionate place for all.

Crystal will now spend the next three months at IndigiNews and we can't wait to see what she creates while she is a guest in our storytelling lodge.

Just yesterday, she was on a bus headed to a landfill outside of Winnipeg to learn about a search centre set up by the province of Manitoba. We're so glad she'll continue covering this important story.

After her time at IndigiNews, Crystal will move on to Pivot, a French-language outlet that will be translating Crystal's stories into French!

We are excited to be working alongside her as she brings her in-depth, culturally informed storytelling to IndigiNews readers.

kinanâskomitinâwâw for all of you who will be following her journey here.

hiy hiy!
